CBME Curriculum Framework Foundation Course (1 Month)

The Foundation Course serves as the bridge between school education and medical college learning, introducing students to:

  • Sports, arts, and extracurricular activities
Phase I - Pre-Clinical Phase

Duration: 12 months including university examination

Core Subjects:
  • Anatomy: Comprehensive study of human body structure with emphasis on clinical correlation
  • Physiology: Understanding normal body functions and their regulatory mechanisms
  • Biochemistry: Molecular basis of life processes and disease mechanisms
  • Community Medicine: Introduction to public health principles and preventive medicine
  • AETCOM: Ethics, communication, and professional development

    Include integrated teaching across disciplines, early clinical exposure through community postings, competency-based assessments, formative and summative evaluations and skills laboratory training

    Phase II - Para-Clinical Phase

    Duration:12 months including university examination

    Core Subjects:

    • Pathology: Study of disease processes and diagnostic techniques
    • Microbiology: Infectious diseases and antimicrobial therapy
    • Pharmacology: Drug actions, interactions, and therapeutic applications
    • Community Medicine: Advanced public health concepts and research methodology

    Clinical Integration include hospital-based learning experiences, laboratory skill development and clinical case discussions under the departments of General Surgery, General Medicine and OBG..

    Phase III - Clinical Phase

    Duration:30 monthsincluding examinations( 12 months : 3rd Professional part-I and 18 months 3rd Professional Part-II)

    Core subjects and clinical rotations:

    • Medicine: Internal medicine, subspecialties, and emergency care
    • Surgery: General surgery, anesthesia, and surgical subspecialties
    • Obstetrics & Gynecology: Maternal health, reproductive medicine, and family planning
    • Pediatrics: Child health, growth, development, and pediatric emergencies
    • Orthopedics: Musculoskeletal disorders and trauma management
    • ENT: Ear, nose, and throat disorders
    • Ophthalmology: Eye diseases and visual system disorders
    • Community Medicine: Field practice and public health programs
    • Forensic Medicine & Toxicology: Medico-legal aspects and toxicological studies
    • Electives: Specialized rotations based on student interest
    • Compulsory Rotating Residential Internship (CRRI) as per NMC guidelines :

      • Community Medicine:12 weeks

      • Psychiatry: 2 weeks
      • Pediatrics: 3 weeks

      • Anesthesiology: 2 weeks
