About the Event

The Oxford Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre (TOMCH&RC) proudly observed World Patient Safety Week 2025, aligning with the World Health Organization’s global call to action — “Safe Care for Every Newborn and Every Child.”

This initiative emphasized the shared responsibility of healthcare providers, parents, caregivers, and policymakers in protecting children from preventable harm. The event aimed to create awareness, strengthen clinical safety practices, and promote family involvement in ensuring safe, high-quality healthcare for every child.

Objectives

  • Mobilize healthcare organizations and communities to adopt sustainable safety practices for newborns and children.

  • Empower parents, caregivers, and children through education, awareness, and participation in their own care.

  • Raise awareness about safety risks in pediatric and neonatal care.

  • Promote research and innovation to enhance patient safety outcomes in children’s healthcare.

Inaugural Ceremony

The celebration began with the unveiling of the International and National Patient Safety Goals, led by the Director, Dean, Medical Superintendent, and Heads of Departments.

Dr. Suneetha, Chief Officer – Hospital Administration, Patient Safety & Quality, delivered the keynote address highlighting this year’s theme and the hospital’s continued commitment to fostering a culture of safety.

Event Highlights

DAY - 1

1) Department of Pediatrics

  • Presentations on safe care for every newborn and child

  • Role plays on hand hygiene, medication safety, and hospital infection prevention

  • Identification of red flag signs in children and newborns

These interactive sessions enhanced awareness among students and staff, emphasizing early recognition of warning signs and effective safety interventions.

2)Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology

Activities:

  • Role play on Antenatal Care and Identification of Red Flag Signs

  • Demonstrations on Hand Hygiene, Cord Care, and Breastfeeding Practices

  • Awareness on infection signs in newborns

The department underscored the importance of maternal and neonatal safety through simulation-based learning and teamwork.

DAY 2

Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) Committee

Activities:

  • IPC Drill & Hand Hygiene Demonstration

  • NSI (Needle Stick Injury) Safety Workshop

Participants practiced correct handwashing techniques, PPE use, and sharps disposal. The session reinforced the significance of infection prevention in reducing hospital-acquired infections.

DAY 3

1)Department of Pharmacology

Activities:

Role Play on Safe Discharge Practices

This initiative educated patients and families about discharge instructions, medication adherence, follow-ups, and recognizing post-discharge warning signs, thus improving continuity of care.
